Immigration

New House – $15,500 Immigration to Canada was very restricted up to the 1960’s as racial discrimination
was a major feature of Canada’s immigration policy. Prime Minister Trudeau reshaped the country via his immigration reform, which opened Canada’s doors to the best and the brightest from the world
over. In the 1960s there was an epidemic, and lots of farmers were becoming sick. The Government of Canada started recruiting nurses from all over the British Commonwealth countries like England, India, USA,
Australia, New Zealand, etc. They would issue visas and airline tickets, with the condition that you’d have to pay back the money for the airfare. That is the reason many of our Malayalee nurses ended up in Prairie Provinces.
